Mike Carroll Epicly Later'd Episode 2

I wrote a thing in Vice last month about how I hate skate gromets, which it true, but that doesn't mean I wasn't one myself. I actually went to that Visalia skate camp two years in a row when my family lived in Hong Kong and we spent summers in Orange County because of my dad's job (this is all true, I swear). The first year I went to Visalia the Bones Brigade was there, and I actually still have a gross nipple-nosed Tony Hawk board that I got used off someone and had signed by Tony, Steve, Tommy, Ray, and Stacy (lots of ponytails involved). And I am actually in the background when Tony (I think) does a transfer lipslide from the vert ramp to the mini ramp in Powell's Propaganda. I had fun that year; I wore shorts, Airwalks, and huge bright t-shirts, and I learned to drop in on vert. It was fun so I decided to go back the next year. Except something changed in that year. There was a paradigm shift and suddenly skateboarding was totally different. The tricks changed, the attitude changed, and it went from the 80s to the 90s overnight. It was sink or swim and took some adjusting and I got vibed pretty hard. Skateboarders turned from surf kids to city kids that fast. Basically, watching these old clips of Mike reminded me of that. This is a heavy episode today, one of the heaviest in the history of the show probably... I guess Jake Rosenberg left his camera at the Carroll house and when he got it back there was footage of a confrontation between Mike and Greg and their mom. So thank you Mike, Greg, and Jake for all the help putting this together and for being so open. I feel like this episode is about more than just skateboarding.

Ripstik Caster Board - All New Skateboard Design

Product Description
Best described as a cross between a skateboard and a snowboard, the Ripstik caster board is the perfect ride for kids looking for the next big thrill. The board is distinguished by its pivoting deck and 360-degree inclined caster trucks, which offer a snowboard-like carving ability. A simple weight transfer lets you turn or accelerate without pushing, just like when you're carving down the slopes.

The board offers such features as spiked traction pads, a kick tail and nose, and a concave deck design, which combine to improve your foot control--a must for tricks. And thanks to the 76mm polyurethane wheels and precision ABEC-5 bearing casters, skaters will enjoy a smooth ride on almost any type of pavement. Designed for children 8 years and up, the Ripstik's plastic end platforms and metal torsion beam support up to 220 pounds.

Key Features:

Inclined caster trucks
Concave deck platforms
Traction plates
Kick nose
Kick tail
Rubber-padded handle
Torsion bar
76-millimeter polyurethane wheels
High-performance ABEC-5 bearings

220-pound rider weight capacity

The new Ripstick combines all the fun and excitement of surfing and snowboarding and puts it on wheels. Inspired by the classic shape and design of a skateboard, the Ripstick looks like something out of the future. Instead of the traditional four-wheel skateboard, this amazing board can make smooth, quick 360-degree turns on just two wheels. Just stand on the sturdy traction plates and subtle movements propel the Ripstick even up a hill! The front and rear flexible panels are controlled by a spring-oriented bar located on the top of the wheels. The rugged polyurethane wheels are 77mm/85A with ABEC-5 bearings. Separating the two traction plates is a padded rubber carrying handle. Measures 33.5" long x 10" wide. Weighs 8 lbs. Wear helmet and pads for safety. 90-day warranty.
